Ford Repair: 1967 Ford F100 Engine, 1967 ford f100, f100 engine

Question

-------------------------------------------Thanks for your quick response. My thing is however, I have been told that Ford didn't put 390's in 1967 Ford F100's. The motor has chrome high performance valve covers (possibly put on by someone). The man claims the motor is original and it is a 390 325hp 2 barrell and there was only approximately 1800 and something made. But, according to the VIN (F10YCB01902) it was stocked with a 352. Does this 390/325hp 2 barrell motor exist and is it possible what he says is true?

-----Question-----
My husband recently purchased a 1967 Ford F100 and the man who sold it kept claiming this to be some rare engine. My husband isn't concerned about it, but I am curious about. I have tried deciphering the codes, but no luck. Can you please help me? The numbers are (Manifold) C7TE9425-C or 6. This number was on the block 5M23 (I think, it was hard to see). The engine tag has 390 68 1 7 L K 307 J. Is this some rare type of motor? Or, just a screamin' 390? Thanks

Well...I'm not sure exactly how to quantify "rare".  Really, the only "rare" 390 motors that I've ever seen are the triple-deuce motors (which had three 2 barrel carbs).  Those are pretty hard to come by and it's readily obvious when you see one because...well...how many cars come with 3 carbs?  My guess is that it's a Hi-Po 390.  Heck...it could just be a regular 390 and it's just that they didn't put many of them into '67 F100s.  Sometimes when people advertise a car/truck as having a rare motor, they mean it's rare for that make/model.  Hope this helps.

My knowledge of FE motors isn't what it used to be, but I'm almost positive they made more than 1800 390 motors with 2 barrel carbs.  As for the 325hp...I can't vouch for that since my big book of engines is still boxed up somewhere from my move a couple months ago.  I'd be a little surprised if a 2 barrel carb on a 390 could make that kind of power, but I suppose it's not impossible.  As for that motor in that truck, my guess is that it's just an engine swap someone did...probably with a motor from a Thunderbird (tons of those came with 390s in the late '60s).  Hope this helps.
