Ford Repair: 2000 Explorer Ball joints, ball joints, oil change

I went to Ford for an oil change and they told me that I need new ball joints.
The vehicle is a 2000 Explorer, has 79K miles, I'm the original owner and
treat the car with respect. They quoted almost $900 for the front pair.
Does this sound right to you?

  Well it doesn't sound necessarily wrong, if that's what you mean.  Obviously it's impossible for me to tell without seeing the car firsthand, but it's certainly possible that the ball joints are in need of replacements.  Sometimes with suspension parts it doesn't matter how much you baby the car.  If you have uneven roads or even inclimate weather they can wear prematurely.  Of course, it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion from another shop.  Hope this helps.
