Ford Repair: Ford Excursion stuck in park, ford excursion, fuse panel

Question
I have a 2002 Ford Excursion with 96,000 miles.
It is a XLT 5.4 V8 2wd.

Yesterday I got up to go to work and it was stuck in park.
I checked the brake lights and I have them.
When I press the brake pedal I hear the Brake Switch making light click on
and off.
My cruise also isn't working as of about a month ago.
Would like be the Brake Switch because of the Cruise and stuff, but I do have
brake lights...
Thanks for any help!!

Answer
Should be able to shift out of park by placing the key in the first position BEFORE the ON position, of course with your foot on the brake pedal.

Your vehicle has a Brake Pedal Position Switch that has several functions. One side of the switch is for stoplights only, the other side applies to the speed control, shift lock control, GEM, ABS, and other systems.

I suspect one part of this switch is not working, or a fuse is blown. Check fuses 15 & 13 in the under-dash fuse panel. If the fuses are ok, use a test light to check the switch. There should be battery voltage at the switch wire that is light blue/black, and power at the red/green wire with the brake pedal depressed, and a good ground on the pink/orange wire. I suspect you will find a problem i this area.

The different circuits in the switch account for the fact that the stop lights still work.
