Ford Repair: ford 3.0 piston/rod question, hypereutectic pistons, piston rod

Question
I have a 95 Aerostar 3.0 that was given to me. The engine has almost 200,000 miles, and I figure that it has a valve problem.  I’ve tested the cylinders, 5 between 145-150, but one is only 30.  I figure I’ll have to do either head or cylinder work.  I’ve purchased a set of .020" Oversize Hypereutectic Pistons that I’d like to replace with the old pistons.  I’ve purchased a Set of New .020" Oversize Piston Rings HASTINGS #5762.020.  My question is if I can use the old rods, with new bearings, or do I have to purchase others to match the pistons.

Thanks…

Answer
Eric-

You can still use the old rods as long as they're still in good shape.  You might want to have a machine shop clean them up a bit, but you certainly don't need to go out and buy new ones altogether.  Just throw some new bearings on them and they should be good to go.  Hope this helps.
