Ford Repair: engine shuts off :(, cylender, couple feet

Question
I just bought a nice little 1995 Escort GT and it was running great, but my mechanic said that the oil could use a change. So I whent out and bought some Moble 15-30  full synthetic oil and a filter for a 1.8 chasee only problem is that we didnt know what exactly to get cause the info was rubbed off the hood. He replaced the oil and I was on my way. After a few miles I realised the my car was sounding different, when I whent at slow speeds it sounded like a go-cart making a "put-put-put-put" sound which I figured I would address w/ my mechanic when I got home. I was even more horrified when I got home and stoped in front of my driveway and the engine completly cut off! I started it a few times getting only a couple feet on each ignition... my mechanic says he doesnt know what it but I think hes just trying to cover his ass. Is it the oil that caused this or do I have a bigger problem at hand? BTW: its a fuelinjected 4 cylender engine and if you need any other info I would greatly appresiat you help

It seems pretty unlikely that the oil itself would've caused the problem, unless it clogged the pickup screen.  While that's pretty rare, I suppose it's a possibility.  What you're describing sounds like a loss or lack of pressure.  How and/or where this is happening is hard to say without seeing the car, but it sounds like the most likely culprit.  First thing's first, don't try and start it anymore.  If you don't have pressure then you're probably just about to seize the engine up (not good, since you'd need to buy a whole new engine).  Have it towed somewhere that will take a look at it.  I don't recommend the mechanic that did the job for this step.  Hope this helps.
