Ford Repair: tools, auto repair business, changing oil

Question
I have a question about tools.  My son recently graduated from Linclon tech, and claims he needs about $10,00 worth of tools before he gets started looking for an auto technitian job.  Do employers really require an apprentice to come to the job fully tooled?

Answer
$10,000 is a conservative figure. Undoubtedly LTI also told him about the fantastic salaries he can earn. I suggest you visit flatratetech.com for more on this topic, there has been much discussion about the tech schools and their promises. Starting out he will probably be doing things like changing oil and mounting tires. He will need a basic set of tools to start, and you will be amazed at how much it will cost to stay up to date in the auto repair business. I personally have over 60K invested over 32 years, some have over 100K depending on where the techs work and what kind of work they do.

Good luck to your son, I wish you would have asked before he went to LTI, tho. There are much more lucrative and less damaging professions to get into.
