Ford Repair: 2001 Taurus SEL, wheel bearings, wheel bearing

Question
I have a 01 Taurus SEL with 78k miles. I'm hearing a "thumping" and a "humming" from the right front wheel. I have rotated the tires several times to rule them out. I believe the wheel bearing is failing. Would you agree? How do you replace them and what specvial tools are needed?

Answer
Hi Kurt,
It sounds like wheel bearings to me too, To replace first remove brakes and rotor, then remove center nut and lower ball joint nut and tie rod end nut and seperate all 3(may need special tools) then remove half-shaft from knuckle. Look on the back of the spindle and remove the 3 15mm bolts from hub/bearing assy and remove the assy from the front of the hub. Replace with new hub/bearing assy. GOOD LUCK!
