Ford Repair: replacement of bad 4.2 in F150, cars mustangs, older cars

Question
Blown 4.2 in a '97 F150. Was lucky that we got +250,000. It appears most don't
due to gasket leak. The truck is still in great shape otherwise.

Question: Living in Ontario Canada. Are the new crate engines (long blocks) sold
today, free of the poor gasket problem? Are there better engines than others to
choose from? As a reasonably good back yard mechanic with most tools and
have replaced engines in older cars (Mustangs). Would this be a straight forward
swap or should a qualified mechanic do this

thanks

Answer
Bob,
If you have the tools, and know what your doing, you can swap the engine with a new one. Yes, there are good engines to choose from, if,, you want to spend the money.. All engines are under a limited warranty so if you have any trouble you have the warranty to fall back on.. As for the long block free of poor gasket problems, yes they are. As my father used to say, you spend,, good money on something, it will last a long time.. If you go the cheap way, then you dont get the good quality.. Thanks,,,
