Ford Repair: Ford Climate Control, ford crown vic, ford products

Question
1998 Ford Crown Vic  275,000 miles.
Once engine has warmed up, it starts blowing maximum hot air (outside temp 75F and control set for 70F).  Lowering temp setting doesn't stop it.  Fan control does work and hitting "Floor" will redirect.  Turning system off stops all air movement.
A/C and automatic climate has never failed before.  A/C has never been recharged.
Car was in Ford dealer last month to replace fuel shutoff switch.

Answer
Ford uses an electronic actuator for the door that controls temperature, and I believe this is where your problem is. On some Ford products the door breaks, which is possible on a Crown Vic but not common.

There is a simple self-test you can do to see if there are any codes in that system. Press the FLOOR and OFF buttons simultaneously, then within a few seconds push the AUTO button. This starts the test, you will see a dash running around the display, then a number will come up. If it is 888, it passed. If it is any other number, let me know and I will determine what the number indicates.

The door actuator will not always set a code, so don't panic if the system passes.
