Ford Repair: Ignition spark on 1984 Ford Bronco ll, ford bronco, vehicle distributors

Question
I am not getting spark on my 84 Bronco ll. I have
replaced the control module but still nothing. I
am getting power to the coil but not out of it. I
know it seems obvious {bad coil} but some friends
have said that it could be the "brain". My question is, how do you check a coil?, and what
are some other possibilities?

Answer
The first test you should do requires a 12 volt test light. One side of the coil should light up with the key on, usually the red wire. The other side of the coil primary should blink when the engine is cranked over. If it doesn't then you have a control problem, not a coil problem. There is a stator in the distributor that in theory replaces the points used in older vehicle distributors, this is what turns the coil on and off to make the spark. I suspect this is where your problem lies.
