Ford Repair: stalling, strong points, diesels

Question
i have a '02 f250 diesel automatic and when i put it in reverse the rpms shoot up and then it starts to click and then it dies. it will do this a few times then it will finally go.  it kind of sounds like when you have a stick and try to start in a higher gear and it clunks a little then  dies. sometimes when i put it in drive or reverse i have to rev the engine fairly high before it actually will kick into gear.  someone told me to do an oil change and that will help but it did not work. what else would do this? it is very weird.   thank you

Answer
Sean, diesels are not one of strong points, but I do know that they require three things to run properly-good fuel, a clean air filter, and clean oil at the right level.

For more assistance, I suggest you go to flatratetech.com and check out the diesel forum. There are some very good diesel techs there that can help you.

Have you had codes checked or seen the check engine light at all?
