Ford Repair: 2000 Ford E350 Transmission, ford e350, 4r70w

Hello,

I just bought a used 2000 Econoline E350 Super Duty Van with the V10 engine. And in the process of reading the Owner's Guide I see that the van could possibly have a 4R70W or 4R100 transmission. How can I tell which transmission it has? And which trans-fluid do I use Mercon or Mercon V?

The simplest way is to look for the fluid type on the trans dipstick. Some have it on the handle end, some it is stamped into the metal stick.

If it says Mercon, it is a 4R100. If it says Mercon V it is a 4R70W.

To know for certain I need the vehicle i.d. number
