Ford Repair: 351 Cleveland....basics, 351c, 351 cleveland

Question
Hi Steve, beginning a '70 Torino restore project and had some very basic questions regarding the 351c.(I'm not an engine guy, but looking to get some basic knowledge before I have it rebuilt)

The current/stock engine is a 70' 351c 2v 250hp. I would like to make it a 4 barrel car, give it a bit more hp... I've been getting mixed advice on what can be done to make this happen.

my question is: Can I replace the intake manifold and carburator only? Or will I need to replace the heads/pistons/crank/cam/exhaust manifolds as well, with 4v variations?

thanks in advance!
Vince

Answer
Vince-

Well...I'm sure someone makes a 4V carb intake for the 351C 2V motor, but that won't make it a true 4V motor.  There's more to the 4V motor than just two extra barrels on the carb...the head port design is larger allowing it to flow better.  I'd recommend just swapping on some 4V heads and a good 4V intake and carb.  I suppose you could replace the engine internals (a cam really wakes those motors up), but it's far from necessary.  Hope this helps.
