Ford Repair: Ignition, rear disc brakes, crank sensor

Question
I have a 56 F100 with a 79 lincoln versallies ignition on a 69 302. I turned off the truck and it would not restart. I have checked the wiring and have replaced the ignition module. The motor turns over but there is no spark. I have checked the distributor cap and rotor but they seem fine.
I even tried another coil and that did not make a difference. Any suggestions? Would appreciate any help to solve this mystery.  Thanks

Answer
First thing I would check is make sure the distributor is turning. I had a mustang with a 302 years ago that broke the distributor driveshaft. Turned over great, no spark and no oil pressure. Take the cap off, crank the engine see if the distributor turns. If you have already done this then we'll move on.

Using a 12 volt test light, probe each of the primary terminals on the coil. One should be bright with the key on, one dim and blinking when the engine is cranked. If the one doesn't blink, most likely the pickup in the distributor is bad. I don't recall for sure if the 79 Versallies had the pickup,or the double decker cap with a crank sensor. Either system the coil terminal should blink indicating that part of the system is working. If it has a crank sensor, those were common failures and not bad to replace. Crank sensor had a blue connector with wires running down the side of the timing cover. It's been a while since I have seen one of these, but you should have one of these systems.

Had a '53 F100 way back, just after I had the upholstery done it was totaled when some idiot ran a red light (not me!)Sure miss that truck. 390, c-6, 9" rear, disc brakes, p/s. Ran like a scared ape and handled great!
