Ford Repair: ford 302 , 5.0L. V8 firing order, distributer cap, inner fender

Question
My car will turn over with no proublem but it wont fire.I got all new spark plugs and still no firing...my next thought is that the wires from the distributer cap to the plugs them self are in the wrong order and i have no idea what the right order is...can you help?!

If it helps any: the motor is in my 1980 Lincoln Mark VI and i was told by the peron i bought it from that its the original motor.

Answer
Firing order should be visible on the intake manifold. If not I recall it to be 1-5-4-3-6-2-7-8.

Even with crossed wires it should spark, probably backfire. This Lincoln should have a Duraspark system. Look on the inner fender for the ignition module, it is about six inches of square aluminum. While cranking the engine tap on this module lightly, see if the engine will start, if it does then you need a new module. It's an old method and not very tehcical, but it usually works.

If that doesn't work, then with a 12 volt test light probe each primary wire at the ignition coil, one wire (probably red) should have 12 volts with the key on, the other terminal should blink when cranking the engine. Le tme know the results of these two steps and we'll pursue this if needed.

That is, if you're sure you have fuel........
