Ford Repair: 88 Thunderbird Overdrive, throttle linkage, ford thunderbird

Question
I have a 1988 Ford Thunderbird 5.0/Sport.  I recently replaced the EGR position sensor, in the process I inadvertently disconnected the throttle linkage.  I reattached the linkage according to the manuals specifications, but when I went to test-drive the car the overdrive would not work.  It will shift into all gears, however, once it shifts into overdrive, there is nothing there.  I have to shift down out of overdrive in order to power the car. It has an automatic transmission. Can you please tell me what is causing this, this car is my only transportation to work.  Thank you.

Answer
I will have to do some research on this one, it's been a long time since I have looked at this year Tbird. I hope to have an answer for you tomorrow. Sorry, transmissions are not one of my strong points but I WILL get you an answer. I have many resources to refer to, please bear with me.

In the mean time, did you see two cables hooked to the throttle? Or one cable and a rod? I think 1988 used a cable for the trans shifting, check and see if there is another connection on your throttle lever. This cable needs to be connected at both ends for the trans to shift correctly.
