Ford Repair: 90 straight 6 oil pan, pan gasket, rubber gasket

Question
my oil pan gasket was leaking on my 1990 f-150 300 inline six. i heard from my uncle (who is passing away) that i could replace it without jacking up the motor, but i wouldn't have very much room work. i took the pan off and the gasket and finding that ther is VERY little room to work. so my question is do i need to jack the motor up to put the gasket on right, and should i use a one peice rubber gasket or a multi-peice rubber and cork gasket? also if i use to rubber one-peice could i use an adhesive?
                        thanks,

Answer
Ben-

Your uncle was right...you'll have to jack the motor up...even if it's just a few inches.  Just make sure the engine is well supported, unbolt it from the mounts, and give the jack a pump or two.  As for the gasket, I prefer the cork and rubber type.  The one piece rubber ones are probably a bit easier to get on, but I've had bad luck with sealing problems.  Hope this helps.
