Ford Repair: engine, double pumper, comp cams

Question
Hi Steve...I'm looking to build a strong 350-375 hp ( crank) street motor for my '85 -302-AOD
Vert.Mustang(weekend driver).FMS/SVO parts and labor are coming to around $5500 ...gt40X alum heads,demon 600,performer intake,etc.
My question is,can you build one for less, with similar specs?
Thank you,
Mike

Answer
Mike-

Well...it could be done for less, but not a lot less.  You've got the heads, intake, and carb down well.  There are cheaper parts, probably...but they'd be less reliable.  I guess your next important step in the cam.  I'd suggest a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy grind that fit your engine specs.  They tend to offer better power than most other cams, even in non-roller cam applications like yours.  I suppose you could port/polish the stock cylinder heads and go with a regular Holley 600 double pumper and another intake (like the Weiand Stealth), but I don't think the price difference would be that much.  Hope this helps.
