Ford Repair: abs and transmission, vehicle speed sensor, abs light

Question
I HAVE A 99 SUPER DUTY F250 V10 TODAY MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON  WHEN IT DID MY SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T  WORK RIGHT AND IT DOESN'T SHIFT RIGHT CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT IT MIGHT BE

Answer
Dick-

I'm not sure of the exact cause, but I can tell you that the ABS and the speedometer have no ties to each other.  You may have a faulty VSS (vehicle speed sensor) which will effect the speedometer and the transmission since the computer uses the VSS to calculate shift points.  The ABS light might have been thrown as a result of the bad sensor...it's hard to say sometimes.  I'd have a shop pull any trouble codes that they can from the computer (unless you have a code reader in which case you'll save some $$).  That's the only way you'll really get down to what's wrong for sure.  Hope this helps.
