Ford Repair: Ford CFI to EFI conversion details, crane ignition, conversion details

Question
Steve, I have a 84.5 CFI that I want to convert to EFI. How is it done and is there literature available?

Answer
Woody-

I take it from the "84.5" notation that you've got a 20th Anniversary GT350?  I happen own one and will correct anyone who calls it an "84".  As luck would have it, I have also done the CFI-EFI conversion (with the addition of a turbo).  The best way to go about it I've found is to not mess with factory stuff and go with a DFI kit like the one from SDS (Simple Digital Systems).  I like their stuff in particular because it doesn't require the use of a laptop.  All of the computer's programming can be adjusted via a little handheld controller.  It also uses only a handful of sensors as opposed to the factory's dozens.  The stand-alone processor w/ programmer and sensors goes for around $1200 if I remember right.  You'll probably want to upgrade the fuel system as well.  You can either buy a complete kit from a company like Aeromotive (which is what I did) or piece one together yourself which is a little harder, but you might save a few bucks.  I'd also look into something like an MSD or Crane ignition as well.  It'll make hooking up the TFI stuff easier (and you'll need an ignition box like the MSD one for the SDS system).  Aside from that you'll need obvious stuff like an EFI intake, fuel injectors, fuel rails, etc.  If you're really good with a wrench this could probably be a weekend job.  Otherwise I'd plan for two weekends.  As for literature, I don't know of any.  I used help from friends and a little trial and error (thankfully more trial than error).  Hope this helps.
