Ford Repair: HELP ME!, 3000rpm, seat of your pants

i have a 1989 ford truck it has 171,341 miles on it i have just got it. It was vary well taken care of but i need to know ware a good RPM to shift at i just installed a TAC in it its only a 4 banger but i wood like to know ware to shift at i dont know ware it red lines at i think 6000 but i dont know i live in utah and i can get cold i dont wont to crack the block can you help me. my buddys told me to shift at 3200RPM but i need a profesinal to tell me ware is good to shift at THANKS

  Well...it depends on what you're doing and how you want to drive.  Normally driving on the street I'd say do it by the seat of your pants...normally around 2000-3000rpm for stop and go traffic.  For more "spirited" driving I wouldn't take it past 5000rpm...5500rpm at the most.  I'm willing to bet that your engine stops making power around 45000-5000rpms so revving it past that doesn't make sense and will damage your engine.  Hope this helps.
