Ford Repair: speedometer needle sticks, ford explorer xlt, speedometer needle

Question
I have a 95 Ford Explorer XLT 4X4 automatic that has developed the habit of the speedometer needle sticking at a speed reading and just staying there for a while and then suddenly it starts working again or goes to another speed and sticks again.  Sometimes it works fine for several weeks and then it will start again.  Any suggestions? It has 125,000 miles and I have had it since it was new.  This is its first ever problem.   Thanks -- Bill

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would suggest a few things:
1. Have the computer system checked for fault codes and repair.
2. Have the Speedo gauge checked...it might just be a gauge gone bad.
3. Have the electrical wires checked going to the gauge.
