Ford Repair: Ford Explorer EXT. - 4X4, pencil eraser, drive shaft

On my 93'explorer when you push the button sometimes 4 wheel drive (high) engages and other times it does not. The low gear does not engage at all. Sometimes I can move the drive shaft by hand and it will then engage but not always. Any ideas ?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
This is a common problem with the explorer. What you'll need to do is remove the back of the drive motor on the transfer case. Then use a pencil eraser and clean the tracks and fingers for the electrical connector. Put it back together, and you'll be back in business.
