Ford Repair: I have a 1997 Ford Escort..., backup power supply, antifreeze coolant

Question
I have a 1997 Ford Escort LX? It has an automatic transmission and 2.0L SOHC. The Service Engine Soon light and the airbag light came on and went off- then it started running hot. I refilled the radiator and now my floorboards are soaked with antifreeze/coolant. My front windows fog up and smoke comes out of the vents. I was told that it sounds like the heater core is bad. How do you replace the heater core? I hope my husband can do it since we don't have the money to take it to the shop. The engine had to be replaced last August because it ran hot and the transmission was rebuilt 6 months ago. Thanks
