Ford Repair: thermostat, mercury grand marquis, 1992 mercury grand marquis

Question
1992 Mercury Grand Marquis
auto, 4.6 v8
Will the overall performance of the engine be affected(like gas milleage or emissions), if I change the thermostat from a 193degree to a 180degree.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Yes, the ECM gets some of it's input information from the ECT(engine coolant temp) unit......changing the thermostat will lower the running temp of the engine and not allow it to get up to a specific temp.
Keep it at what it should be.........192*
Hope this helps,
Erik
