Ford Repair: EGR problems, ford explorer xlt, vacuum gauge

Question
I have a 1996 ford explorer xlt, auto six cylinder 4x4.  Check engine light came on and Autozone says it is :egr valve flow restricted. I replace egr valve three months ago, along with egr tube to intake. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
My first suggestion is stop going to autozone for diagnostic work. They aren't mechanics...they are at best, parts people.
My next suggestion is to verify that the EGR is getting a proper vasuum signal at the correct time. For this you'll need a scan tool with the ability of going in to a running self test, and a vacuum gauge.
