HI I HAVE A 1984 MERCURY COUGAR THAT HAD A 3.8L ENGINE I REPLACED IT WITH A 5.0L ENGINE FROM A 1984 COUGAR I HAVE SWITCHED THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS AND THE HEADLIGHT HARNESS THE PROBLEM IS I HAVE NO SPARK OR INJECTOR PULSE BOTH ENGINES ARE CFI. I SWITCHED ECM'S THE CAR HAS AN AUTO TRANS 3 SPD I DIDN'T SWITCH THE WIRING HARNESS THAT GOES ON THE DRIVERS SIDE UNDER THE DASH I WENT THROUGH A NO START TROUBLE TREE HERE ARE MY RESULTS.
INSTALLED A BREAK OUT BOX MEASURED VOLTAGE FROM PIN 37 TO 40 AND PIN 57 TO 60 - 11.5V
MEASURED RESISTANCE  FROM PIN 16 TO TFI CONNECTOR - .01 OHMS
MEASURED VOLTS FROM PIN 36 TO CHASSIS GROUND WHILE CRANKING ENGINE - 1.2V
MEASURE RESISTANCE WITH TFI AND ECM DISCONECTED PIN 36 TO 16,20,26,40,60 - NO CONTINUITY AT ALL (READ "OL" ON MY FLUKE DVOM) SAME FOR PIN 36 TO 37,57 SAME FOR PIN 36 TO 56
CONECTED ECM (TFI STILL DISCONECTED) MEASURED RESISTANCE PIN 36 TO 37,57 - NO CONINUITY MEASURED RESISTANCE  PIN 36 TO 40,60 - NO CONTINUITY
CONECTED TFI MEASURED VOLTAGE PIN 56 TO 16 WHILE CRANKING - 1.25 VOLTS
DISCONECTED ECM MEASURED RESISTANCE PIN 56 TO PIP OF TFI CONNECTOR - .02 OHMS
ECM AND TFI STILL CONNECTED MEASURED RESISTANCE PIN 56 TO 16,20,40,60 - NO CONTINUITY  SAME FOR PIN 56 TO 37,57
THEN IT SAYS TO SERVICE TFI IGN SYSTEM I REPACED TFI MODULE AND STILL NO SPARK I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY INSIGHT YOU HAVE FOR ME THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Let's start at the beginning......
I would check for distributor rotor rotation.....see if it moves when cranking.....could be a bad chain/ drive gear.
Next, I would do a pinpoint test on the PIP (profile ignition pick up) or stator.....inside the distributor.
I would also check the voltages going in to and from the ECM.......I would think that the voltage at pin 56 to 16 during crank should be battery voltage.

HI ERIK  THANKS FOR YOUR IMPUT I HAVE DISRIBUTOR ROTATION
I AM NOT SURE HOW TO GO ABOUT TESTING THE (PIP)? THE ENGINE RAN WHEN IT WAS IN THE (JUNK) CAR WHEN I SWITCHED THEM I JUST PLUGGED THE 5.0L ECM INTO THE 3.8L WIRING HARNESS AND THE INJECTORS WERE PULSING ALL THE TIME WITH THE KEY ON SO THAT IS WHEN I DECIDED TO SWITCH WIRING HARNESSES I WAS WONDERING IF I COULD HAVE POSSIBLY FRIED THE 5.0L ECM? THIS CAR HAS ME REALLY STUMPED ANY MORE INFO YOU COULD GIVE ME WOULD BE GREAT THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME (DO YOU KNOW ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS TRIED TO DO THIS BEFORE JUST WONDERING?)

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
What you might want to try is make sure that your dist. is attempting to fire on TDC for #1 and then try replacing the dist. get one from the junk yard. The stator is the pick up that is inside the dist.
I've heard of people switching engines and transmissions before.....but never with this type of problem.
