Ford Repair: Transmission, torque converter, repair history

I have a 1994 Ford 1 ton van with 196 k miles with an automatic transmission. Over the last few days the transmission is slipping in and out of gear at around fifty mph. It slips so bad that it is hard to get it over 50 mph. I bought this van used so I don't know much about the repair history. The fluid level is good with no leaks. I just want to know what to expect in the way of repairs so I don't get ripped off by some transmission shop. Thx.

As far as a complete rebuild with a reman torque converter you're going to be looking around 1800.00 to 2200.00 ........This is ONLY if there aren't any hard parts involved....that price is labor and parts.
