Ford Repair: 1990 ford ranger 4.0 atuo, fly wheel, flex plate

Question
The starter engages and turns but the motor doesn't. I noticed the transmission bolts were out about 1/4" along the bottom. I don't know if that might have caused a problem? I tightened them but no change. You can turn the flywheel with your hand. Whay do you think the problem might be? Thank you for your time toolmansam@aol.com

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
It sounds like the fly wheel is no longer connected to the engine. I would attempt to get a mirror in there and check it out......you are saying that you can freely move the flex plate with out the help of a tool? It just spins?
