Ford Repair: Vapor Lock, radiator hoses, mustangs unlimited

Question
I have a 65 Mustang 289 2BBL when the temperature outside is above 80 degrees the car wont stay running. If I let it cool down it will restart but will not run for long. I installed a 160 thermostat but that didn't help at all. I installed a fan shroud and it didn't help. I want to keep the car original so i dont want to add anthing aftermarket. Hope you can help me. Thanks,   Jim

first of all let me say you have a great car.i applaud you on wanting to keep it orignal as most people dont,as of this year old mustangs value went up 28 percent do to the new gt.are you sure its water vapor lock or gas. next time this happens take off your air cleaner with car off move your linkage to pump gas into the carb (4-6 quick pumps should do it). if the car then starts you have a carb problem.if its the carb take it off and add a couple of gaskets.if this doesnt help you will need a rebuild of the carb and a special gasket, that you can get from mustangs unlimited.i doubt its a cooling problem but it could be if this doesnt work check your radiator hoses, flush your radiator and engine. in the next couple of months i hope to have my web site up where people can go to for problems such as this.i have 15000 files so it will be a while.hope this helps and good luck.
