Ford Repair: 1992 F-150 light switch, headlamp switch, dash lights

Question
I own a 1992 F-150.  The head lights went out on my truck so my dad and I toyed with the knob on the switch (moved it in and out) until we got them to come on but both the tail lights and the dash lights went out.  The same happend when we got the tail and the dash to work, the head lights went out.  So we bought a switch, the female end of the wiring harness, and a new knob but the problem continues to occur.  Is there a trick to the installation or could something else be wrong?  Thank you.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would re-check your wiring harness.......it would seem that a common problem people have is changing them out. Also, make sure that you have the correct headlamp switch. Not an after market one.....go with the OEM.
Hope this helps,
Erik
