Ford Repair: Ford Ranger 1986 4x4 V6 2.9 Standard, nickel and dime, ford ranger

Question
Refuses to sustain an idle, has cut off while driving, is at the point now where it does not want to keep cranked.  Burnt out two Fuel Pump Relays in the last week, have changed the Pickup in the Distributor, getting spark and gas.  We are thinking of changing out the fuel pump, we don't know which one it is or how to find out.  We replaced the computer and the ECC.  What can be causing the Relay to burn out?  We do not want to nickel and dime ourselves to death.  Please any information on how to determine the problem would be appreciated.  Thanks

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question ...I'll try to help.
What I would suggest you do is remove the power wire fron the relay block for the fuel pump nad check to see IF there is an electrical draw on it. I have seen fuel pump still run or get started after the vehicle is shut off, and require fuel pump replacement.
Hope this helps,
Erik
