Ford Repair: Shifting, transaxel, shift cable

Question
Im working on an 1995 escort. When I shift to reverse it will not go when I shift to neutral it will drive foward.I have checked the shifting cables and everything seems to be working. I disconnected the shift cable and moved it by hand but still get the same problem. They do not give you much information in the manuals about automatic transaxel transmisions. Do you have any Ideas.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
There should only be one cable on the automatic transmission. If you remove the cable and shift it at the transmission by hand, with a helper........do you still have the same problem? The ONLY other thing I can think of is that what is called the manual shift valve has snapped in two and it is sending fluid in the transmission to where it is not suppose to be.
Hope this helps,
Erik
