Ford Repair: 97 Taurus air compressor clutch, clutch plate, compressor clutch

Question
I have replaced the clutch and I need to know what the gap needs to be between the clutch and the compressor.  It came with 4 different sizes of shims the one that I put on the clutch will not engage.  Is there a standard gap for this or is it a guessing game?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I think you need to remove the clutch plate. Look at the old one and take the spacers out of there and use them. The clutch shouldn't drag, but it has to be close enough to be pulled in by the field coil.
Hope this helps,
Erik
