Ford Repair: 95 Explorer Fuel pump, inertia switch, engine cranks

Question
My 95 Explorer XLT won't start. The engine cranks, but I smell no gas and don't think I hear the fuel pump is coming on. This has happened  on and off for the last 6 months. The truck will start one day and not the next. I have checked all the fuses and have swapped the fuel pump relay with another one of the same type(heater fan I think). Sometimes it will start witnin the hour this last time it hasn't started for weeks. I think it has to be an electrical intermittent but I can't duplicate the failure, or in this latest case get it to start at all. Suggestions?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would suggest that you check the connections at the fuel pump and also at the inertia switch. See if the are good, tight, and clean. If this isn't the problem I would look in to replacing the fuel pump. Or at least check for voltage at the pump electrical connector. If you have voltage there it is certainly the brushes in the pump that are sticking and not letting the pump turn on.
Hope this helps,
Erik
