Ford Repair: 95 ford contour, clutch master cylinder, brake master cylinder

Question
I having trouble with my 95 ford contour, standard 5 speed. When my car is running I can't shift the gears, it won't move out of neutrel and it feels like its grinding. But when I turn the car off the gears move freely. I can only get my car in gear if I start it in 1st. so I was woundering if I need a new clutch plate or springs? I also can't find the tranmision fluid resvre under the hood do you know where it is?

I was hoping I only had a bad fluid line the engages the clutch or something.
If you could answer my questions it would be appreaited. Thank You

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The resevoir is the brake master cylinder. It has a feed lin off of the bottom of it, supplying the clutch master cylinder with fluid. What you need to do is check for a leak at the master cylinder and also at the slave cylinder. If there isn't oe present.......you can be sure that you'll need a clutch job done.
Hope this helps,
Erik
