Ford Repair: 2000 taurus egr, vacuum lines, p0401

Question
my check engine light came on on my 2000 taurus, the trouble code i got was p0401 which according to the book is egr insufficent flow. could this be a clogged egr or just a bad sensor and whats the best way to fix this. also, could this problem be affecting my ac, because it started acting up and cooling erraticly about the same time. thank you

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
This code could be caused by both of your suggestions. The best way to fix it is to remove the EGR and inspect is.....also make sure that it can and will hold a vacuum. Also, check the vacuum lines to the EGR to make sure it isn't broken or cracked. As far as the AC goes.....it isn't likely that it would have problems from the EGR......The only think that I can see would be IF the engine wasn't running smoothly that it could cause an AC belt slippage.
Hope this helps,
Erik
