Ford Repair: too much oil, ford contour, cylinder walls

Question
My daughter has a 98 ford contour and she over filled it with oil. The car was not driven, but it did start and then started to smoke. Then the engine would not turn over or do anything. We drained about three quarts of oil out of the car and left the car sitting on an incline for about 12 hours. It still will not turn over. Is there some kind of sensor or something that would need to be reset?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
No there isn't a sensor to be reset. What MIGHT of happened is she could of hydro-locked the engine with oil........not good. This can cause piston and ring damage, as well as score the engine cylinder walls. I would take the spark plus out and inspect them......see if there is oil on any of them.
Hope this helps,
Erik
