Ford Repair: 99 Explorer wheel bearings, ford explorer sport, wheel bearings

99 ford explorer sport 4x4, 4.0L V-6 OHV 80,000
The 4x4 lights on the dash blink every 5 minutes. I have found that this indicates a drive-line problem. I also know that the wheel bearings are bad. Could bad wheel bearings be causing the error code? I am fairly competent with car repair, and I have the Chilton repair manual for the vehicle, but I do not have any specialized tools. Are wheel bearings something I can do myself?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
 The wheel bearings should be pretty straight forward.
As far as the 4x4 light flashing........I would have the system looked in to by the dealership or a garage. It is most likely NOT caused by the wheel bearings.
