Ford Repair: Rear Differential Leak 1994 Ford Ranger Splash 4x4, ford ranger splash, drive shaft

Question
Hello Erik

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger Splash - 4X4

I noticed a small drip of fluid on the rear (bell housing?) REAR differential housing thing,<----(the ball, pumpkin shaped thing, in the middle of the axle) looks as if its coming from a back seal,<---(that seal that goes around it) - -
(NOT where the drive shaft enters this housing) I put some chalking around for temp stop, (slow down - how can one fill this differential housing with fluid, and seal it?!
can one even check the fluid level in the "pumkin" thing....?

with out a costly mechanic ......

(I'm un-employed.....can't afford a mechanics rates....ya know...)

Thank You for Your most valuable time

please tell me i can fix this on my own, (with some type of sealant, and how) and atleast re-fill any lost fluid .....

Yours Truly Kris O.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The only way for you to stop the leak is to replace the seal or use RTV silicone as a replacement. The fill plu is located in the rear cover OR on the upper top front portion of the rear end. It is a 3/8" square drive that is used to remove it. To fill it....the fluid should be 1/4" below the fill opening.
Hope this helps,
Erik
