Ford Repair: 2005 Ford Escape, oil change interval, 2005 ford escape

The instrument cluster information display (LCD) on my 2005 Ford Escape, kept showing "change oil soon" even though I had my oil changed at 3000 miles and checking the oil level showed it was clean and the level was normal.  Now it says "Change Oil Now".  The dealer wants me to bring it in for "diagnosis" ($97.00) and possible repair.  I'm thinking that this is just a standard interval reminder, but I don't know for certain and I don't know how to turn it off... The car is now approaching 5000 miles (the recommended oil change interval).  I've had no problems with the vehicle at all, it's been running fine. Any suggestions?

Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
 I would first look in the owner's manual.......see if and what the reset procedure is for the oil change indication light. If there isn't one, go to the dealership and have them reset it.
