Ford Repair: 200 Ford Focus...hesitating/stall on right turns, fuel gauge, full tank

Question
Hi Erik,  I have a 2000 Focus ZTS with 127,000 miles on it.  Recently, the car has hesitated or stalled while making wide right hand turns ( on cloverleafs etc) when the fuel gauge was at 1/4 tank or so. More recently this has been happening at just under 1/2 full. This is rather unsafe when it occurs. A while back, I ran out of fuel when the gauge read just under 1/4 tank...so I try to keep it above that.... After I ran out...and the first couple of hesitations and stalls, I replaced the fuel filter.... Now it is happening sooner than before..

After it stalls..or hesitates...I can get going right away...usually sitting for no more than 1 minute. It does not happen with a full to 1/2 full tank..nor does it happen on sharp lefts...

Any clue?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Local mechanics have said we can start with a $500.00 fuel pump job.... So here I am.

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
What I would suggest is that you check for fuel pressure when the car dies.  IF the gage is wrong....you'll need to replace the sending unit (part of the fuel pump asym.)
Hope this helps,
Erik
