Ford Repair: 1991 ford escort engine problem, inertia switch, excellerator

Question
ok. background, the other day I hit a very large pothole. the damage was enough to replace the rim on my tire at least. after replacing the tire with the temp. spare for short term use. and approx. 24 hrs later I was returning from a short trip driving home down the highway. I had driven approx. 6 miles and the engine started to "die out" on me. I was pushing down on the excellerator and was not getting any response. When I turn the key It is cranking but not turning over. the alternator and starter were just replaced less than 1 year ago, the battery is good. (all lights, radio, etc. still turn on)  I rarely drive the vehicle more than a few miles to and from work. I remember hearing something about a fuel cut off switch, could this be the problem. could it have gotten bumped out of whack or something, any thoughts?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
No, the inertia switch is an instant OFF switch for the fuel pump, it is unlikely that it is your problem.
I would have a garage check the vehicle over........Check for fuel pressure, spark, air intake.
Hope this helps,
Erik
