Ford Repair: starter, inertia switch, ford 460

Question
We have a 1990 econoline with a Ford 460. Ignition got turned without key. Don't know how long it was like that.  Engine will crank but won't catch. Coil has spark, ignition module tested fine. Any suggestions of what to check? Also, there is a shut off valve for the fuel pump. Could that be the problem, and how do you reset it?

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would fix the key problem first. If it is turning with out a key, it might not be pushing the rod that goes to the ignition block to power everything up. Your owner's manual should be able to tell you where the fuel pump inertia switch is. It is there in case the vehicle gets in to an accident and it will trip and shut the electricity off to the pump. You should be able to push the white plunger back do to reset it.
Hope this helps,
Erik
