Ford Repair: 89 ranger dies after warm up, crankshaft sensor, ford range

Question
Hi thanks for your help.
I have and 89 ford range 2.3L FI. 4cyl. It quite a while back and I had a garage work on it. The timing belt broke so the replaced it and the crankshaft sensor. It run like a top for fifteen minutes then started running rough then died. after starting it up again it ran well for about 20 miles and quit again. After it set awhile I could start it and it would run for 10 to 20 minutes (while parked, if you drive it 5-8min. is tops) start running rough for a few seconds maybe 30 if you pump the accelerator the die. If you try to start it right away it starts runs ruff for 20 - 30 seconds. I've replaced the coil pacts, fuel pump, full pressure modulator, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter (twice), blown through the fuel lines to check for blockage, checked fuel pressure 35-40 lbs, its driving me crazy. Spent more on parts, labor, and towing then the trucks worth but to much to stop now. I'm out of ideas. got any. Only saving grace is I have a 1990 ranger that has been rolled but runs for parts.

thanks in advance,
Joe

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
I would check it for a clogged cat converter......undo the exhaust at the manifold and see what happens. Also, you might want to rent a scan tool and check the computer system for fault codes.
Hope this helps,
Erik
