Ford Repair: instrument cluster, fuel guage, ford bronco

Question
have a 71 ford bronco, the fuel guage does not work replaced sending unit from broncograveyard guage still does not work, pulled guage and saw one on the leads was broke, soldered it back on hooked guage turn key on guage went over to full and peged out. i checked the voltage going to the guage and it was 12 volts, but i was reading there is a constant voltage regulator on the cluster that drops the voltage to 6 for the cluster is that correct, but if the regulator is bad does it allow 12 volts to come through

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
It would seem that if you are getting 12v at a 6v location that the regulator is bad. Also, did you check the boneyard sending unit before installing it with an Ohm meter?
Hope this helps,
Erik
