I have a 1995 ford taurus, 3.0l not sho.
I just need to replace the drive belt.
do I just move the wheel of the tensioner with a 15mm wrench or do I have to loosen the tensioner first.
I tried to move the wheel first, but it seems very tight.
thanks, bob

Thanks Erik,
I went to this site before asking my question.
I didnt get the specific help I need from this site.
because there are 2 different ways of loosening the belt, I am confused.
I just need to know if I move the wheel with a 15 mm wrench, or do I need to loosen the adjuster first, then move the wheel.
Thanks,
Bob

does the vehicle have an automatic tensioner?
Erik

Yes, it has the automatic tensioner,
but one the autozone site, and in the repair manual, there is 2 ways to loosen the belt.
one, you put a allen wrench in the tensioner itself, the other, you move the idler with a 15 mm wrench. I try to move the idler with the 15 mm wrench, but it is very hard to move, is this typical?, should I get a breaker bar and force this to move?
how much force is normally required to move the idler? 30lbs?
thanks.
Bob

Hello and thanks for the reply...I'll try to help.
Yes, the tensioner will have "force" against it, from the internal spring. What also might help you see what's going on is to remove the windshield wiper/antifreeze tank that is in the front right corner of the vehicle.
Hope this helps,
Erik
