Ford Repair: Remote Keyless Entry, remote keyless entry, keyless entry system

Question
Eric,

I have a 1997 Contour.  All of a sudden, my Remote Keyless Entry system range went down to nearly nothing.  I literally have to hold the keyfob near the center of the dashboard for it to work.  I replaced the battery in the keyfob and that did not make a difference.  I read somewhere else on the internet that the range is dictated by the receiver, not the transmitter.  Is this correct?  If so, where is my Remote Entry Receiver or Relay or whatever it is called and what does it look like?  If not, what else could be the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Bob

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
The keyless entry is a PIA system to deal with. There are too many variables that can cause an interference problem with the keyfob to receiver transmission of signal. I would suggest that you bring it to a Ford garage and have them take a look at it.
Hope this helps,
Erik
