Ford Repair: 1993 Ford Escort 1.9L LX --EGR Valve Question?, ca emissions, narrow valve

Question
Hi Erik,

This car was a small amount above exceeding the CA emissions for nitrous oxide (No check engine warning lights or any other for that matter).  Doing some reading, it seems to point to EGR valve.  Ideally, to remove it, clean it out, test it... and if needed replace it.

I cannot really find the info I'm looking for to locate this part and how to remove.  I think it's a small black disc shaped object with a narrow valve attached to it hidden behind set of wires on the passenger side (attached to) silver intake manifold(?).  IF that's it... is there a correct procedure to remove and try and clean it out?

Any help would be appreciated!  Thank You!
Ed.
