Ford Repair: engine idle, climate control system, e4od

Question
I have a "90" bronco eddie bauer 351w (original motor, nothing after market)with almost 125,000 miles on it and the E4OD trans (rebuilt). Ok here is my problem, when slowing to a stop the engine rpm does not want to fall as it should. It wants to hover around 1300. You really have to apply the brake with some effort to stop the vehicle. After a few seconds at full stop the rpm does fall to normal. Also when I turn the climate control system off, the rpm goes up by 5 to 7 hundred rpm.  Thank You for any insight

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
There are a few things that you can check:
1. Check the computer system for fault codes (rent a scan tool or have a garage check it out)
2. Remove the EGR valve and make sure it's NOT stuck closed or hung open.
3. Check the throttle plates for carbon build up......BIG PROBLEM with the Ford vehicles. Clean with carb clean on a rag.
Hope this helps,
Erik
